Sling Patio Furniture
Sling furniture is the category where less is actually more, and the less in question is maintenance. The fabric — a woven mesh of PVC-coated polyester or similar synthetic — is stretched tightly over a powder-coated aluminum frame and becomes the seating surface itself. No loose cushions to bring inside before a storm, no foam that absorbs water, no upholstery to clean or replace. The chair just works, dries in minutes, and shrugs off weather that would send a cushioned lounge set indoors. Our sling pieces sit within the broader outdoor furniture collection and represent one of the most practically capable material categories we carry.
How Sling Works
The construction is deceptively simple: aluminum frames — welded, powder-coated, fully rust-free — with the sling fabric attached under tension at both ends. That tension is what creates the support. The fabric conforms to the body as you sit, distributes weight across the full seat surface, and provides a naturally comfortable sit without the thickness of a foam cushion. Quality sling fabric is UV-treated to resist fading and resistant to mold and mildew, which means it performs indefinitely in outdoor exposure without degrading.
The breathability of sling fabric is a practical advantage in warm-weather settings. Air moves through the mesh, which keeps the seating surface cooler than solid materials in direct sun. It also means the fabric dries almost immediately after rain — a sling chair left out overnight in a rainstorm is ready to use the next morning. For pool decks, coastal patios, and high-humidity environments, the combination of rust-free aluminum and fast-drying mesh is a genuinely useful match.
The Sling Range
Sling construction is available across multiple furniture categories at Patio Productions. The majority of sling dining chairs and sofas fall within our sling sofas and chairs collection, where most major brands offer coordinated dining and lounge configurations in the same frame and fabric palette. Sling lounging pieces — chaise lounges, daybeds, and adjustable recliners — are covered in our sling lounges and daybeds collection, which is where sling arguably performs at its best: poolside, in direct sun, where the fast-dry and breathability properties do the most work.
Sling furniture is also available in stackable configurations across several collections — a practical consideration for hospitality settings, commercial outdoor spaces, or any patio where compact storage between seasons is a priority. Patio Productions is ICFA-certified and has been serving customers from our San Diego showroom and nationally online since 2007. Comparing sling to another low-maintenance material, or trying to find which sling collection coordinates with existing furniture? Our team is here for that.
